About

“Don’t just fly, Soar!”

SOAR /sôr/ (verb) — To soar means more than just to fly; it means to rise swiftly, to feel the wind slipping below you as you ride it higher, higher, higher. Flying is just moving through the air. Soaring, though, suggests exhilaration, even joy.

Welcome! My name is Tiffany and I’m the Chief Vacation Planner for my family of four. My favorite travel companions include my husband Tim and our two daughters.

For us, traveling is about so much more than just going somewhere. We’re not just “moving through the air.”

Travel helps us achieve a greater sense of connection in our family by removing the distractions of everyday life.

Our travel adventures also let us experience some of the benefits of homeschooling while maintaining enrollment in a traditional school during the school year.

We love to take family road trips, often to coastal beach towns on the East Coast or to Disney, and use those experiences to learn about the world together as a family.

Where We’re Going Next

Right now, I’m planning our first-ever trip to Ireland so you’ll read more about that on the site as we get closer to the trip.

We also have a family beach trip planned to Hilton Head Island this summer. We save a ton of money on our family vacation budget by cooking a lot of our own meals in the beach house kitchen we’ll rent for the week.

    How It All Started

We moved to Charlotte, NC from the midwest over ten years ago, drawn by the warmer temps and the long list of travel destinations easily accessible by car.

Plane tickets x4 used to mean limited travel opportunities for us but now that we can drive we love to take frequent weekend getaways all along the East Coast of the US.

I’ve been blogging for over 15 years over at PeanutBlossom.com where I originally shared about our travel adventures.

Travel is so important to me, I launched Don’t Just Fly to have a dedicated space to inspire more families to travel together.

Is This Site Just For Homeschool Families?

    No, not at all!!

I believe parents play a crucial role in their children’s education no matter who their teacher is.

Whether your student is enrolled at your local public school, private school, or you choose to homeschool completely, there are always opportunities to teach your kids what matters most to you.

Our family homeschooled one daughter while the other attended public school. The same solution doesn’t always work for different kids.

That experience taught me that the best learning doesn’t happen in a workbook.

We use travel to sneak in fun and simple learning moments in what otherwise looks like your regular family vacation!

It can truly be just as simple as reading one of these books together before you head to the beach.
